"I landed in New York City in the fall of 2002 and the first landmark I ventured to was located at 315 Bowery. Not Lane. Not Street. Bowery. This is the home to one of the most, if not THE most, important music venues in the United States. "Country, BlueGrass, and Blues & Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers," also known CBGB, was a small music nightspot opened by Hilly Kristal in 1973 that, despite it's hippy sounding name, was previously a biker dive bar. The run down storefront, with the disgusting bathrooms, was a mecca for punk rock, new wave, and hardcore showcasing legendary bands like Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Gorilla Biscuits, Agnostic Front, CroMags, and hundreds more. CBGB is the proof that behind every worn down, burnt out, forgettable store front in a shitty section of NY could hide something amazing and inspiring."
